Celebrex is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) of the coxib family (selective inhibitor of cyclooxygenase-2). Mostly used for the symptomatic treatment of rheumatic diseases (osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis).

Inhibitors of cyclooxygenase seem to have a preventive effect on the occurrence of colon adenomas, but can become secondarily to cancer. Celebrex has demonstrated efficacy in this use. This does not proven, however, it can reduce the incidence of colon cancer.

The best way to use Celebrex

Take this medicine as directed by your doctor, usually once or twice . This drug is best taken with meals to lower the chance of stomach upset. Take this medicine at the lowest effective dose and just for the prescribed period of period (see also Warning section).
Take this medicine with a complete glass of water (8 oz or 240 milliliters) unless your doctor directs you otherwise. Don’t lie down for 10 minutes after taking this medicine.

Elderly (> 65)
As with any patient, treatment should be started at 200 mg per day.
If necessary, the dose may be increased later to 200 mg twice a day. Particular attention should be paid to elderly body weight below 50 kg (see section Special warnings and precautions and Pharmacokinetic properties).
In patients with moderate hepatic impairment demonstrated with a serum albumin of 25 and 35 g / l, treatment should be initiated at half the recommended dose. Experience in these patients is limited to that of patients with cirrhosis (see sections Contraindications, warnings and precautions for use and Pharmacokinetic properties).
Experience with Celebrex in patients with mild to moderate is limited, such patients should be treated with caution (see sections Contraindications, warnings and precautions for use and Pharmacokinetic properties).
Celebrex is not indicated in children.
CYP2C9 poor metabolisers
The risk of dose-related adverse effects is higher, should be administered with caution to patients Celebrex known or suspected to be CYP2C9 poor metabolizers based on genotyping or history / previous experience with other substrates CYP2C9. A dose reduction to half the lowest dose recommended should be considered.
